Smiling at a New Day

A short (10-15 minutes) easy lesson for small children Text: "Present Moment, Wonderful Moment" by Thich Nhat Hanh.

Start off reading the first mindfulness verse in the book : "Waking up this morning, I smile Twenty-four brand new hours are before me vow to live fully in each moment and to look to all beings with eyes of compassion

."Discuss: Talk about how to wake up in the morning with a smile on your face, and how that makes you feel, and what can you do to remember to wake up with a smile.

Activity: Draw smiling faces. Or make something to hang near the child’s bed to help them remember to smile when they wake up.

Expanded Lesson for older children:

Discuss: How can you live fully in each moment? What does it mean to look at all beings with the eyes of compassion?
