Dharma by the Numbers
Four Noble Truths
- Suffering exists in all of life.
- Suffering has causes - desires, ignorance, attachments
- Suffering can be extinguished - eliminate the causes
- In order to do this follow The Noble Eightfold path or middle way.
Eight Fold Path
- Right views/ ideas/ understanding
- Right aspirations/ mindedness/resolution
- Right speech
- Right conduct/ behavior/ action
- Right livelihood/ vocation/ living
- Right effort
- Right mindfulness/ attentiveness
- Right concentration/ enlightenment
Three Jewels.
- Buddha
- Dharma (teachings)
- Sangha (community of fellow believers)
Three Refuges
- I take refuge in the Buddha, the one who shows me the way in this
life.
- I take refuge in the Dharma,the way of understanding and love.
- I take refuge in the Sangha, the community that lives in harmony
and awareness.

Five Precepts
- Respect Life
- Refrain from taking what is not given.
- Treat sexuality as sacred.
- Speak truthfully, avoid telling falsehoods.
- Respect your own body,do not use intoxicants of any kind.
